Is the 47 Skin serum worth buying?
Yes, for a first bottle at £29.00, and mostly because of two things the rest of this bench rarely has: a seller you can look up in a public register, and a refund that survives you opening the box.
The seller is 47 SKIN LTD, company number 11474567, registered in Huddersfield since 20 July 2018. Its accounts are filed up to 31 May 2025, the next set is due 28 February 2027, and the address in the public register is the address printed in its own terms, alongside VAT number GB 346156987.
The guarantee is the other reason. Asked "Do I need to send the product back?", 47 Skin's own page answers: "No, we don't need you to send it back to us - and we'd love it if you could recycle."
An opened, half-used bottle still qualifies. That is not how most offers on this bench are written.
Now the part the badge hides. The shop prints "47 Day Money Back Guarantee". The policy behind it says you must use the product for at least 30 days first, and then "you can request a full refund anytime between day 30 and day 47". That is a 17 day window, not 47 days to change your mind.

Three things the badge does not carry
- The badge says "we'll refund you in full". The policy says "we'll refund you everything but the postage of your first order", and the terms add "Any import charges occurred are excluded from our moneyback guarantee."
- A badge reading 47 days reads like 47 days to change your mind. Ask on day 20 and you are too early. Ask on day 48 and you are too late. The usable span is 17 days.
- The clock starts at the purchase, not at the doorstep. Standard delivery is quoted at "Delivery within 5 business days", and those days come out of the same 47.
The good half is real and worth saying plainly. Asked "Do I need to send the product back?", the same page answers: "No, we don't need you to send it back to us - and we'd love it if you could recycle." Nothing goes in the post, and an opened bottle is still refundable.

The second page is the Shopify template, left unedited: it still lists a "CD, DVD, VHS tape, software, video game, cassette tape, or vinyl record" among the goods it will not take back, in a skincare shop. That reads like neglect rather than a trap.
It matters anyway, for one practical reason. Nine of the thirty products in the catalogue are sold with a savings badge, and that page says sale items cannot be refunded. If you ever have to argue a refund, quote the guarantee page by name, not the policy in the footer.
Two more pages lean the same way as the footer: the delivery page says "we are unable to accept returns for any opened cosmetic products", and the returns section of the terms says "We cannot accept returns or refunds for: Used or opened products (unless faulty)". Neither mentions the 47 day guarantee at all.

The two do not overlap, and that is the useful part. If the bottle is still sealed and you change your mind in week one, the statutory route is the one to use. If you have used it for a month and it did nothing for you, the house route is the one that pays out.
The £16.00 trial size does not fit the guarantee
The entry product is listed as "Trial Size Anti-Blemish & Scar Repair Serum (15ml - 2 Weeks)" at £16.00. The guarantee asks you to "try the product for a minimum of 30 days before requesting a refund".
A bottle the vendor itself sizes at two weeks cannot be used for 30 days. Buying the trial to test the guarantee is buying outside the condition of the guarantee. If the refund is the reason you are willing to try this at all, start with the 30ml bottle.
What is in the bottle, and the one number the brand does not print
What this means for you: everything below can be checked on 47 Skin's own product page in about a minute, and it decides how much of the marketing you should carry into your basket.
Start with the credit, because it is earned. 47 Skin publishes a full ingredient list on every product, and it publishes real concentrations where it has them, which most of the shops on this bench never do.

It names its testing house too: "Our products have undergone extensive clinical trials with Princeton Consumer Research."
And it prints the size of what it tested, in the small type under its own figures: "Based on a 12-week independent clinical study of 30 adults with blemish-prone skin", a "Consumer perception survey of 100 users after 30 days of use", and for a second set of figures, "In a customer study of 9,346 participants".
What is not published: any link, PDF, DOI, protocol or date for that 12 week study. The laboratory is named, the report is not, so nobody outside the company can read it.
The ingredient the brand is named after is printed below the perfume
Ingredient lists run in descending order of quantity, which makes the position of a name worth reading. Here is where the interesting ones fall in 47 Skin's own list for the 30ml serum.

That is the vendor's list as published, with the middle of the fragrance allergen tail abridged where the brackets sit, and the brand's own spelling kept, typo included.
Silver Chitoderm is a trade name, so it cannot appear in an ingredient list at all. What appears is Chitosan and Silver Chloride, and both of them are printed in the part of the list that comes after the preservative, with the silver inside the fragrance tail.
So the honest reading is this. No page on the domain says how much Silver Chitoderm the bottle contains, and no patent number appears anywhere on the site either, although the brand and its affiliate listing both describe the ingredient as patented. The brand is transparent where it has a number to give, and silent exactly where the number would be the differentiator.
What to do with that at the checkout: pay the £29.00 for the acids and the full ingredient list you can read before you buy, and count the silver as the part you cannot check, because no page on the shop lets you check it.

We do not repeat either sentence, and nothing on this page claims the serum acts on acne, on scars, on pigmentation or on anything else. In the United Kingdom that is the language of medicines rather than of cosmetics, and a cosmetic sold in a shop is not a medicine. We are not saying a rule was broken, and we did not check any advertising ruling: we are recording what the page said, on that address, on that day.
The rest of what we left behind: the percentage improvements in blemishes, marks and scarring, the approval and pregnancy badges, the age claim, and the line about results from the first application.

How much Silver Chitoderm is in the serum?
The brand does not publish that figure anywhere on its domain, which is the main thing holding this score below a 9. It does publish concentrations elsewhere: "2% Salicylic Acid" on the BHA Exfoliant, "15% Azelaic Acid" on the Treatment Serum, a "10% blend of AHAs and BHAs" on the Exfoliating Skin Treatment.

Can you use the guarantee if you buy from Boots, Harrods or Amazon?

- The guarantee covers an opened, used product and asks for nothing back: "we don't need you to send it back to us". In a field where the standard wording is unopened, unused and in its original packaging, that is the difference between a guarantee that exists and one that does not.
- The independent record is good and clean: 4.5 out of 5 across 5,444 Trustpilot reviews, 514 of them one star, a profile claimed since 2019, no suspension, no warning, no incentivised review notice, and every negative review replied to.
What holds it under a 9: the badge advertises 47 days for a 17 day window, the footer refund policy still contradicts the guarantee in writing, the postage does not come back, and the concentration of the ingredient the brand is named after is not published anywhere.

What we did not check, and therefore do not claim: the price of these products at Boots, Harrods or any other retailer; whether any patent exists for the ingredient, since no number is published; the contents of the 12 week study, since no report is published; and any advertising ruling history, which we did not search properly enough to describe.
