3.5 billion what, exactly?
"3.5 billion probiotic strains" is the sales page's own phrase, and it mixes up two different numbers. 3.5 billion is a CFU count, colony-forming units, a measure of how many live bacterial cells sit in the blend.
It is not a count of different organisms: the Proprietary Probiotic Blend that carries that 3.5 billion figure holds three organisms (L. paracasei, L. reuteri and BL-04), and a fourth, S. salivarius, is dosed separately with no CFU of its own declared.
Three or four organisms sharing 3.5 billion CFU is a real, usable dose, oral studies commonly run 1 to 10 billion CFU, so the quantity here isn't symbolic.
What the count can't tell you is which strain of each organism you're getting, and that's the traceability problem: only BL-04 carries a strain code on the label.
